Change. Good or bad. It is an opinion question that is very dominant in todays society. Whether or not we need to update our government or replace the technology we use every day. Advancement in society is what I think defines us as a country. It shows how dominant we are. We cannot have a significant role in the modern world if we are unwilling to change. Other countries will take that opportunity to expand and improve the aspects of their nation and surpass us. Though all of these aspects refer to the world as a whole change is also important in our everyday lives.
Todays society worldwide is more or less a competition between the countries of the world, the goal of which is to be the dominant leader in technology, advancement of medicine, and the military force. All of these things with emphasis on the military are what label a country as a thriving, noteworthy country or an insignificant, petty country. There is a remedy though, for those nations so trivial and squalid. A remedy that such countries as those in the G8 have recognized and acknowledged as a prerequisite for success. Impediments do come into place for certain nations such as little capital and an unstable economy. The arisen question, “Is change good or bad?” is answered by me and most likely any politician or state leader with a simple yes. Change is crucial, vital, and yes it is a good thing. Good and necessary.
If you were to look at a picture of New York City in 1935 what would you expect? A thriving, colorful photograph of a country in great economic success? No. 1935 was the midst of the Great Depression and a devastating time for the United States. Maybe you would not see a majorly poverty-stricken nation such as regions of south Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa, but you would see a tragedy, and one that is black and white. Now, why is all this not impacting us? Because we changed. We redeveloped our economy and created jobs for the unemployed. We reversed the disequilibrium unemployment and stabilized our stock market. We also changed our technology for entertainment. We now have not only color photographs, but amazing technology such as touch screen electronics and advanced GPS and weather systems. Change has brought us into the 21st century and into the future.
The United States is not the only country that has changed. If you look over all the countries of the world, they have all over time changed their governments or their practices and most definitely their technology. For example, the G8. The Great Eight is a prestigious and exclusive “club” of the world’s most advanced countries. Those sophisticated enough to be members are the U.S, the U.K., Italy, France, Germany, Russia, Japan, and Canada. Now obviously these countries have gone beyond the rest, but were they always this way. Did it used to be the G7 or G6? At one point these countries were less developed. Most likely they had ambitions and wanted to be more developed. They realized change was necessary. Change is what warrants success and dominance in everything.
Most people tend to live routinely. They do the same things every day. Get up, take a shower, get dressed, eat breakfast, brush your teeth, and then go off to work or school or whatever it is you do during the day. People do not mix it up or live outside the box. That is exactly what I’d like to promote. Nobody is spontaneous anymore; they don’t grasp life and live it to the fullest. They just will say well I will do that one day or maybe when I retire, but what if you died that very same day. Would you not regret all those things you never got to do? I say don’t wait. Because what is the point of living life if you don’t enjoy it. I think life should be thinking, and solving, and working as well, but we need change to accomplish this. Change is not bad, yet so many people are afraid of it. Instead of asking “Why?” ask “Why not?” instead of wearing your favorite color, wear your least favorite. Little changes are good for us. And you will never know what exactly you like unless you are willing to change and try new things. Change your hair style; change the color of your room. Change is fun and exciting as long as you aren’t going to extremes.
History comes into play when you are dealing with change. When you take into account records of time and everything accomplished in that time you can examine a person or country in regards to their tactics for their deeds. Change plays a role in all of this because time changes and we change over time. Nothing actually remains exactly the same. We make adjustments to the stories we tell to embellish to our friends; we amend the laws established by our governments; we move from house to house, buy new cars, and replace old clothes. Change is not a bad thing; I do not see how it ever could be. We need it to globalize and expand. No, we should not turn the world into one bi melting pot of all of our cultures, but we should try to explore others as we do not know what they are like until we try them. It is kind of like the first time you try a mushroom or hummus or endamame. We may not necessarily want to do it, but we know we should.
Is change good or bad? The global question that comes down to what do we do to be noticed or taken seriously. Maybe to you it just means whether or not you should stop wearing that favorite shirt of yours or whether or not you should finally throw out those old jeans that you love. Before you can answer this question you first have to discover what change is and decide for yourself. My answer is yes. I don’t see how we could survive without it, but like I said it’s an opinion question. I’ll leave the rest to you.
While I appreciate your convictions, your argument lacks both skill and citation. I challenge you to identify your thesis statement and then identify each specific piece of support for the thesis; look for yourself, have you support any of your claims with sourced material?
