Philosophy and Art in the 12th-14th Centuries

  1. What you think comes from what you know
    • Your thoughts are based off of what you already know about something; if you were to think about something entirely new to you without any prior info. Then you would not have much to think about

  2. The Normands brought the old French language
    • They also brought the Bible
  3. Nationalism - when people of a country don’t want to deal with the people and things outside their country; they lock out everything else because they think they are dominant to everyone else.
  4. England rises in power in the 14th century
    • That rise was due to the way the English monarchs developed their dynasties

Submission for Class Blog

The Struggle of the Orders changed the way that Rome could make decisions. Before, the Patricians could and did make laws whenever they wanted to, but the Struggle of the Orders took away some of the power from the Patricians. After the struggle, the Plebeians were able to veto any law that Patricians put forth. This gave them a large amount of power, because the Patricians could no longer do something the Plebeians did not approve of. The Republic had been founded only fifteen years before this change, so it obviously did not take long for the Plebeians to figure out the injustice happening. However, after the Struggle of the Orders the Patricians still held a considerable amount of power, so they did not let the Plebeians completely take away the power they had. Politics in Rome did not, for the most part, change, except that the Plebeians were no longer the sole individuals with any power.
