The new Gothic style architecture reflected a change in both church theology and design. The old Romanesque style focused on the judgement day, which means death. The design was similar to that of a fortress. There were very little windows and large, rounded archways. Above the doors would be a large depiction of judgement day. The new Gothic style churches reflected the total opposite. There were large, stained-glass windows and elegant pointed arches. It was full of light and openness. The old judgement day paintings were replaced with paintings of the Annunciation. This suggests that there was a change in church theology. They started focusing on the beginning instead of the end. Each of these portrayals go directly with the design of the church they were on. One gloomy design had a picture of the end, a not so happy time. One bright, and cheerful design had a picture of happiness and hope for the future.
